I invited many people from different professions or jobs, levels of education, and ages to write a freely chosen personal confession on a paper that will be destroyed later. Each person could program a visit to my studio and bring the document there. Inside the studio, this person was invited to modify the document physically according to his or her convenience and decision: breaking it, wrinkling it, burning it, fold it, etc. Besides, each person would choose the color for the background where the transformed paper must be placed. When the ritual finished, I recorded its results.

Cathartic writing allows the participants in this process to deposit on paper emotions and thinkings with the intention of undoing them. People set away from their body and mind the message written. They put on an external object a part of their life finding the relief when they destroy something they decide leaving behind. Later, to arrange the ruined paper for being photographed allows them to re-signify the content of the writing making its fragments available to the external gaze.

In conclusion, this body of work is based on the identity and active individual projection of people. The modified paper reveals what people wanted to show or exhibit from themselves.

The records of the ended ritual, with the use of photography, explore the displacement of the portrait artistic genre. Each modified paper becomes a particular extension of its author, who decided the running of the action.
